A Vernissage in Manhattan

Philip Gerstein

[Epigraph]

"To participate in the endless cycle

of modulated emotional choices --

the struggle of negativity and hope,

and the turning of this crazy world of ours --

is inescapable; but in my work,

optimism invariably wins and the vision

of a better, artist created world prevails."

~From my exhibition statement for

Shared Habitat Earth  (March 2023)

Manhattan is crowded these days. An almost pre-pandemic bustle prevails anew. The local art scene in our nation's Art Capital is no exception -- at least judging by the Opening night of my group show at gallery LICHTUNDFIRE on Lower East Side in April.

Gallery LICHTUNDFIRE opening April 13th

The show is titled TOTEM and TABOO. Its well-curated selection features five of my paintings, ranging from medium to smaller in size, but outsize in their contribution of color and textural complexity.

The following then is a mostly visual record of my images and of the very enjoyable vernissage itself.

"Morningside - Beyond the Pillars of Heracles", 30 x 30 in. (76 x 76 cm),   Oil stick, acrylic, & mixed textural media on wood panel, 2021

Presenting to you Lichtundfire Director, Priska Juschka, the show's curator

It is probably fair to end this visual journey with a pair of young lovers, to take the stock of the future of our art audience and the promise they perhaps represent. Art for the young and the young at heart!
