Whew! Oy! Glad Lent's over! Forty days of self-deprivation; we're kaput, not to mention starved; howbeit … thanks that it weren't Forty days of self-flagellation, `eh? No spare flesh on these sub-tropical dwellers (already! with the hot and humid … My Kingdom for SPF 130 and a mosquito
repellent that kills these gargantuan blood suckers!) I do believe there's more cases of self-conflagration flaring up in these parts than any other place, save for Death Valley, CA (providing you believe in self-conflagration, aka, spontaneous combustion, in the first place). Best better put a FIN to these cutesy `self's; wouldn't want a Self-aggrandizement (can't stop it!) Charge, and this column to get torched by Jefé Arturo (or as said in Thai: pee Artier (pee meaning respected
older brother … Pee? … slightly different meaning on this side of the Pacific, I'd say!). Or, shalt we use: gra-pom Meiselman (he of higher status). No doubt he'd prefer that one; or, the ultimo of respect: dtai-tao (we under your feet). Whatever … It's springtime! … far better than the horrid winter just passed. We'll take it. Got no choice! The flowers are in bloom; and, lets get right to it, so are the shows of our town's local theatre - the pros at the
ever-expanding community theaters - the university drama departments, et al. Now all you `Big-Daddy's-in-rehearsal, for all those plenteous, obligatory LONG HOT SUMMER's; be it in Mobile, Tallahassee, Jackson, Natchez, (does Key West count?) and, naturellement, around-about our sweltering New Orleenz area; be forewarned: stay away from the beignets … you got the role, don't get `rollier' or tha heat'll get ta ya, big Guyz and Goils too. And, you `Brando wannabees', sorry,
you'll have to keep your shirts on for the STREETCAR… undershirts permissible, of course. Some call it bad timing, what with The Super Bowl, Mardi Gras, and the Final Four seemingly barely over; and we're now right smack in the middle of the 30th Annual New Orleans Jazzfest; HECK NO!; we call it Keeping Things On A Roll `n' Keeping The Peeps Outta Their Houses `n' Into Our Houses (we're Night and Day People down here…mostly Night, I do believe) … sooooo! let's roll out the Spring/Summer Theatre season, as it stands now, in Ol' New Orleans!
