Story-line: The end is coming.

SCENE ONE

A camera operator, a producer, and a reporter are on the street. They are scared of what they are seeing. We hear sounds of explosions and sirens.

EMILY (the reporter)

Oh my God!

THE PRODUCER

Let's do it.

EMILY

I can't do it.

THE PRODUCER

Yeah. You can, and you will.

EMILY

I have to go back to Queens. My family is waiting for me. You should be in your home, too.

THE PRODUCER

Stop it. You gonna do this thing.

PHIL (the camera operator)

If we refuse to do this shit, man?

THE PRODUCER

No way. You will be fired!

PHIL

Who cares? The world is ending!

EMILY

(Leaving.)

I gotta go home.

THE PRODUCER

Hey! Stay here, Emily!

EMILY

It's not a good idea.

THE PRODUCER

This is the business we've chosen.

EMILY

No, no, no.

THE PRODUCER

Who do you think you are? Never forget that you are just a cog in the machine.

EMILY

But it's the end of the world.

THE PRODUCER

All right! All right! Maybe it will be the last breaking news of the world.

PHIL

Who will watch this shit?

THE PRODUCER

I don't know. I know that we have to do this.

(The producer points up.)

THE PRODUCER

Look! Professor Hamill is there!

(The producer hands a microphone to Emily.)

THE PRODUCER

Go there and talk to him.

EMILY

(A little annoyed.)

But… but…

THE PRODUCER

Go, go, go. You're the best reporter ever.

EMILY

All right!

(Professor Hamill is looking through the telescope. Emily and the camera operator approach him.)

EMILY

Professor Hamill! Can you talk to us?

PROF. HAMILL

Take care, miss.

EMILY

It will be quick.

PROF. HAMILL

(Looking through the telescope.)

I knew! I knew! We did all the wrong things, and now the chickens are coming home to roost.

EMILY

(To the camera operator.)

Phil... Let's do it!

PHIL

(Getting ready to shoot.)

OK. On the three.

EMILY

Right.

PHIL

One... two... three...

EMILY

(Distressful to the camera.)

Good evening to everyone! I'm Emily Holmes, speaking to you from the Rockefeller Center. A terrible thing is going on right now. Many New Yorkers fled from this place. But Professor Hamill stayed here to figure out what was happening. The President ordered the army and police to fight. Some volunteers joined the forces as well. The moment is tense, and we are terrified. Oh my God! What's going on with our city? In our world? Is it the end of humankind? I don't know. I know that I'm very scared. Let's see if Professor Hamill  has some answers for us.

EMILY

Professor, may I begin our questions?

PROF.HAMILL

Yeah.

EMILY

What's happening?

PROF.HAMILL

I think it's over.

EMILY

Why?

PROF.HAMILL

All the nations made many walls and gates on their borders, but they forgot to do the ceiling. The aliens are coming from the heavens. It is the end!

(A flash of light fills the entire stage.)

Blackout.

END
